I see many mothers struggle to feed home made food but comfortable to some extent in feeding readymade babyfood like cerelac , Nestle etc. But even that untill the baby is unknown to turn his/her head in symbol of rejecting the food. Once it grows to few more months ,it may give the mother "
Amma check my food -i dont need this kind of preparation " meaning the food need to be easy to swallow .Make it in a bit thin consistent so that it is easy for babies to swallow in its initial stage.
There is a saying in tamil for babies stomach and throat - stomach size is as small as bead and throat is as small as a needle ( oosi pola thondai, paasi pola vayiru ) So please make the readymade food to a consistent that is much easy for your baby to swallow. And keep lukewarm water/milk beside so that as and when the food is geting thicker you can add to bring back the food to same consistent.
Regarding home made food ,For BF & dinner - Try to give only idly with vegetable soup / rasam/ dhal water with salt/ for infants upto 8-9 months avoiding dosai . Try to give idly instead of rice , as it contains urudhal ( Protein rich food and easy to digest) . Dip a peice of idly fully in warm soup which will become so soft like liquid soaked cotton ,when put in mouth and will be easy to chew for the kid.
So by this way your kid will find it easy to eat and will not resist for taking food. And feed with love and care
. And when the baby gives clear sign of enough , for your child's sake and for the mother's future sake ..pls stop ... If not later the mother has to struggle a lot when the child grows and learn to stubbornly say "NO" !!
Foir lunch - Give dhal /rasam/ fresh curd ( Ferment everday morning separatley for your kid to feed in lunch -fresh curd has good bacteria good for health and will be very sweet to eat rather than night fermented curd -can give even if your kid has common cold ) Strictly Avoid referigerated curd. Encourage your kid to eat steam cooked (only)
vegetable like carrot , brocoli, potato ,peas , pumpkin , brinjal etc.. which is easy to eat for him/her . Add little salt avoid stir fry vegetable - he doesnt know deep fry potato or frymes ( it is only mom who introduce to keep it off from her for few min.fr the work to be done without disturbances )
Encourage him/her to eat fruits and keep giving fruits even one that you dont like !! If you dont like papaya ,it doesnt mean that even your child wont like . Please try . And for the first few times he may spill it but may love after few times..
So keep giving -dont stop within a time saying - He doesnt like.
The health and wealth of your baby is in its mother's hand
Feed your precious child easy chewable healthy food.
